Merge and Double
About This Game
Play Merge and Double online for free. Merge three or more matching numbers, double their value and chase your best endless score with no timer.
Choose each group and its landing yourself. Every move opens space and gravity changes the neighbors, while higher milestones steadily raise the smallest number. Bigger groups earn more; there is no time pressure.
How to Play
- Click or tap a group of at least three equal numbers joined by their edges.
- The entire group gathers at your chosen tile and doubles once. Its score is the group size times the new number.
- Tiles fall in their original column order, then new tiles fill the gaps. New groups remain on the board until you choose them.
- Watch the milestone strip. The crowned highest tile never drops. At 128 the minimum rises to 4; remaining twos are spread evenly across 4, 8 and 16 without extra score, while regular drops still range from 4 to 64.
- White ×2 tiles unlock at 64. A single one becomes the current minimum; each extra connected ×2 doubles that value again. At a minimum of 4, two make 8 and three make 16.
Controls
Click or tap a tile. On a keyboard, focus the board, use arrow keys to choose a tile and press Enter or Space to merge. Swap asks for two different-valued tiles. Double targets one numbered tile, while Hammer targets any tile. Canceling a target spends nothing; white ×2 is a valid Swap or Hammer target but cannot be doubled with the Double tool. Pause and Resume, sound and recovery tools stay inside the playfield.
Tips & Strategies
- A group of six does not skip a number: it creates the same doubled tile as a group of three, with more score. Compare its resulting neighbors before deciding.
- The result follows gravity. Choosing a different tile within the same connected group can prepare a different next move.
- Shuffle preserves your existing numbers and can still leave no merge. Double changes just one tile; it gives no direct score and never clears a newly formed group automatically.
- Use Swap to prepare a connection and Hammer to remove a blocking tile. Retired minimums and claimed rewards remain; tools never undo a committed move or mint extra score.
FAQ
- How many matching tiles do I need?
- At least three equal numbers must connect horizontally or vertically. Diagonal neighbors do not count. A larger group still doubles just once, but earns more points.
- Where does the doubled number land?
- It first appears at the tile you clicked. All remaining tiles then fall normally, including that result, and new tiles arrive from above. Any group this creates waits for your next click: there are no automatic chain merges.
- How do milestones and the minimum number work?
- The strip shows the current minimum and maximum regular drops, alongside the number milestones. The crowned milestone is the highest number reached in this run. The board spans that number and up to five earlier powers of two. The crowned highest number never drops: it must be made by merging or a limited Double. At 128 the board range is 4 through 128, with regular drops only from 4 through 64. Retired tiles are spread evenly across the three lowest regular values, using the saved random state to shuffle their positions. At 128, retired twos become a balanced mix of 4, 8 and 16; the counts differ by at most one and give no extra score.
- What do the white ×2 tiles do?
- A white ×2 tile is different from the Double tool. Click one to make the current minimum number, or click a connected group of them to double that starting value once for each additional tile. With a minimum of 4, two ×2 tiles make 8 and three make 16. They connect only to other ×2 tiles and never automatically merge a resulting number group.
- Is there a final level or time limit?
- No. This is one endless mode with no countdown or move limit. The run ends only when there is no merge and no available or affordable recovery tool can be used.
- How do scoring, recovery tools and star coins work?
- Each chosen merge scores the participating tile count times the doubled value, with no chain multiplier. A new run starts with three Swap, two Shuffle, one Double and one Hammer. Up to a highest number of 64, every 1,000 new points earns one star and Swap/Shuffle/Double/Hammer cost 10/20/30/20 stars. Prices rise with the highest number reached in this run: at 2,048 they are 100/200/300/200. From 32,768 prices stay capped at 640/1,280/1,920/1,280; beyond that, each new number milestone doubles the points needed per star. Unfinished star progress is retained, and your score itself is unchanged. Tools do not directly add score or merge counts.
- How do Swap and Hammer work?
- Swap exchanges any two different-valued tiles, including white ×2 tiles, without gravity or automatic merges. Hammer removes one chosen tile, then gravity and normal random drops fill the board. Neither tool gives score, merges new groups automatically or guarantees a rescue. The reached number range stays unlocked even if you remove its highest tile. Canceling a target or choosing an invalid target spends no charge.
- Does the game change random drops to keep me playing?
- No. Initial tiles use 35% twos, 35% fours, 22% eights and 8% sixteens. The five regular drop ranks below the crowned highest have weights of 20%, 40%, 25%, 10% and 5%, from lowest to highest. When fewer ranks are available, these weights are normalized. After reaching 64, white ×2 tiles take 1% and the minimum takes 19%; the other four weights stay unchanged. Refills and shuffles are never retried to avoid a dead end.
- How do free hints work?
- Each run has three free hints. After you interact and then leave the board idle for six seconds, one matching group is briefly indicated. Moving the pointer over a group does not reveal its solution. Hints do not change the board or score, and used hints stay spent through tools and reloads.
- Can I continue a saved board?
- Your board, score, random state and tools are saved locally after a committed action. Older saves keep their earned score, existing numbers and wallet. Their previous recovery charges become Swap charges, and they receive one Hammer. If browser storage is unavailable, the game remains playable for this visit and shows that saving is unavailable.
