About This Game

Word Combinations is a calm English word puzzle built around small pieces of language. Connect two to four letter tiles in the order you choose, uncover hidden words and fill a little notebook of discoveries.

Play the same Daily Puzzle as everyone else on the same UTC date, or explore a pool of 120 verified puzzles in Unlimited. There is no timer, no lives and no penalty for experimenting. Your progress stays on this device.

How to Play

  1. Click 2–4 different tiles. Their letters join in your click order; tiles can be anywhere on the board.
  2. Submit a hidden word to earn one point per letter. Each word scores once; tiles can be reused for other words.
  3. The small number on a tile counts unfound target words that can use it. A check means all of those words have been discovered.
  4. Earn five stars by reaching the displayed target score. Keep playing afterward to find every word for Perfect Completion.

Controls

Mouse: click tiles, then Submit. Click a selected tile again to remove it; the remaining tiles keep their order. Backspace removes your last tile; Escape clears the selection. Enter on a focused letter tile submits the current word. Use Tab and Space to select tiles with the keyboard.

Touch: tap tiles in order and tap Submit. Tap a selected tile again to remove it, or use Undo tile and Clear. The same 4 × 3 board works on phones and computers.

Tips & Strategies

  • Try familiar endings such as ing, er and ed, and think about prefixes as well as whole words.
  • Use the tile counts to narrow your search. Counts represent hidden words, so reusing a tile never spends a turn.
  • Hint reveals a complete unfound word and selects its tiles in order. You decide when to submit.
  • The curated answer list contains common English words; some valid dictionary words outside this list will not score. An unsuccessful guess has no penalty.

FAQ

Are the tile numbers a limit on how often I can use them?
No. Each badge counts unfound hidden words that can use that tile. The same word contributes at most one to a tile, even if there are multiple ways to spell it.
When does the Daily Puzzle change?
At 00:00 UTC. Everyone has the same puzzle on a given UTC date. Reaching five stars records a daily completion; consecutive UTC dates build your streak.
Can I keep playing after five stars?
Yes. Five stars completes the challenge, and finding every target word earns Perfect Completion. There is no forced game over.
How many puzzles are in Unlimited?
The first version has 120 verified preset boards. New puzzle picks another board from this pool, avoiding an immediate repeat. A puzzle ID identifies the exact board; shared Unlimited links reopen that board without revealing answers.
How many hints do I have?
Each run has one Hint. Hint reveals a complete unfound word and selects its tiles in order, without submitting it or awarding points. Refreshing, switching modes or restarting the same run keeps the remaining hint. A new puzzle or a new daily puzzle starts with one hint.
What does Restart reset?
Restart clears discoveries on the current puzzle. Your remaining tool uses, best score, daily completion records, streak history and completed practice runs remain saved. Replaying the same practice run does not count it twice.
What is a 3-combo?
A 3-combo joins three different letter tiles into one word, such as un + pack + ing = unpacking. Twenty additional practice boards feature many three-tile words. A 3-combo earns one point per letter, just like other words.
Does sharing reveal answers?
No. Share opens a result card containing the mode, date or puzzle ID, score, stars and number of words found. Use Copy result, device sharing where supported, or select the text to copy manually. No discovered words are listed.
